I was blessed to have Andrew still around for the 4th, so we headed over to the District to watch some fireworks. Since we had to work the next day we opted to stay on the Virginia side of the Potomac and watch the fireworks over the river (saves 2 hours of dealing with the Metro...no joke). First step is to find a parking spot in the grass along the Geo. Washington Pkwy, then find yourself a good viewing location in the grass...I think we did pretty good there across from the Lincoln Memorial next to the Memorial Bridge.
You might not be able to tell by this picture, but it was a lovely 96 sweltering degrees that day.
Remember how it was 96 degrees? Well we also had to take a quick time out for a huge thunderstorm that came through, we took refuge under the Memorial Bridge along with several other refugees :) Actually was kind of fun, thunder and lightening all around, and after about 30 minutes or so, it was done--cooled everything off nicely, but it was still considerably muggy.

We were able to visit with your parents at their place early on the 4th before the Friesen Family get-together. It's been a long time and we have missed you all!

And they say OR has bizzare weather... I think that takes the cake. We had some experiences like that in Africa. It must be the tropics!
Thanks for sharing your 4th with us. Must have been beautiful! Cool star. We spent our evening on a canoe on Black lake again watching the neighbors try to outdo each other they must spend thousands on them! its pretty incredible, but not professional- not exactly legal even for WA either.
Your pictures are great! Wish we could have been there in person! Since Daddy had to get up at 4 am on the 5th we just watched on TV. Not the same, but better than nothing. We watched DC's and New York's! Madre'
